CHETAN KATIGAR
Born in Hubli, Karnataka, Chetan Katigar‘s artistic journey began with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from a private art institute in Surat, which he completed in 2009. As a freelance artist, Katigar explored the realm of Traditional Contemporary art, drawing inspiration from the legendary works of Raja Ravi Varma. His paintings offer a fascinating glimpse into the lives of 17th-century Malayalam people, showcasing their rich culture and livelihood.
With bold, expressive brushstrokes and a vibrant palette of seven earthy tones, Katigar brings to life mythological Hindu deities, characters, and tribal life, alongside European-inspired themes and everyday scenes. Before embarking on a new piece, Katigar envisions the final result, allowing him to channel his creative energy toward achieving the desired outcome. “Painting is not just about applying colors to canvas,” Katigar notes, “it’s about imbuing the artwork with the artist’s very spirit.”
