HARI AMBADAS GADE

HARI AMBADAS GADE

Hari Ambadas Gade, a pioneer of abstract expressionism in post-independence India, was a driving force behind the country's progressive art movement. He championed an unconventional, dynamic style that shattered traditional artistic norms. Alongside fellow Progressive Artists Group members, Gade rebelled against the academic art traditions imposed by the British education system.

Born in Amravati in 1917, Gade pursued a science degree from Nagpur University, graduating in 1938. He reminisces, "As a child, I was drawn to drawing, but science and mathematics also fascinated me." After completing his master's degree in science, Gade's job search led him to teaching. It was during his educator exams in Jabalpur that he discovered his passion for painting landscapes.
