
KASHMIRI KHOSA
Kashmiri Khosa’s artistic journey is defined by a restless exploration of mediums and a persistent quest to fuse visual art with literary and performative expression. Since 1962, Khosa has cultivated a diverse practice that moves seamlessly between ink, pencil, oils, and acrylics, each medium chosen with deliberate intent to enrich the thematic depth and textural complexity of his work. His paintings reveal a refined sensitivity to form and narrative, inviting viewers into a space where visual and verbal languages intersect.
Khosa’s career encompasses more than a dozen solo exhibitions in major cultural hubs such as Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai, supported by prominent galleries including Artoday, Arts Trust, and Gallery 7. His work has received wide recognition, earning prestigious honors like the National Award in 1981 and the President of India’s Silver Plaque in 1974. Beyond these accolades, his art has gained visibility in renowned auction houses like Osian’s and Astaguru, as well as charitable platforms such as Concern India and HelpAge India, highlighting the broad appeal and social engagement embedded in his oeuvre.
The artist’s paintings reside in distinguished collections, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, the College of Art, and the International Airport Authority of India, alongside private collections spanning India, North America, Europe, and Asia. This global reach reflects Khosa’s ability to connect with diverse audiences through a universal artistic language. Khosa’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration sets him apart. His partnerships with poets, playwrights, and writers have led to a synthesis of artistic language and content, a vision acknowledged through a Senior Fellowship from the Department of Culture between 1979 and 1982. His work’s intellectual and imaginative rigor is further evidenced by its publication in respected forums like Temenos 13, an international journal of the arts of the imagination.
Internationally, Khosa has represented India at events such as the 6th Babylon International Festival of Art in Iraq and featured in an extensive slide presentation spanning three decades at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts seminar in partnership with the UK’s Millennium Trust. Recently, Florence Contemporary Gallery in Italy named him among “55 Artists to Discover in 2024,” a testament to his continued relevance and innovation. His works are presently showcased by Holy Art Galleries across London, New York, Paris, and Athens through digital mega-projections, positioning Khosa alongside leading global artists and affirming his enduring contribution to contemporary art.
