Piraji Sagara, a pioneering modern artist of India, left an indelible mark on the art world. As a founder member of the Kanoria Centre for Arts, he played a pivotal role in shaping the artistic landscape of Ahmedabad. His enduring friendship with Urmila Kanoria, the center’s founder, was instrumental in creating a sophisticated studio space for art enthusiasts.
In the words of Sharmila Sagara, “Their shared passion for art education culminated in the establishment of the Kanoria Centre for Arts, a testament to their vision and dedication.” Piraji Sagara was also a founder member of the Progressive Painters group, a collective that sought to push the boundaries of modern Indian art.
Throughout his illustrious career, Sagara received numerous accolades, including the National Award of Lalit Kala Academy, the Vishwa Gurjari Award, and the prestigious Ravishankar Raval Award in 1992. His legacy continues to inspire generations of artists and art educators.
