RANBIR SINGH KALEKA

Ranbir Singh Kaleka, born in Patiala, Punjab in 1953, is a visionary artist celebrated for his innovative blend of painting, video art, and installation. Kaleka's artistic journey commenced at the College of Art, Punjab University, and later led him to the Royal College of Art in London. His surrealist-inspired paintings on paper and canvas explore everyday life with subtle colors and suggested lines.

Kaleka's pioneering foray into video art revolutionized his practice, enabling him to create 'hyperimages' that combine physicality with light. This groundbreaking approach allows him to transcend the static frame, infusing his work with movement and sound. Kaleka's exploration of the psychological event, where the physical and mental converge, has been a hallmark of his practice. His work has been exhibited globally, including the Venice Biennale, Sydney Biennale, and Museum of Fine Arts, Berne. Kaleka continues to push boundaries, experimenting with new mediums and techniques. His artistic trajectory has been marked by a relentless pursuit of innovation, solidifying his position as a leading figure in contemporary Indian art. He lives and works in New Delhi.
