An engaging abstract composition captures a moment of quiet indulgence through a seated figure rendered in a distinctly cubist-inspired style. The painting’s bold geometric shapes and carefully orchestrated color palette invite viewers into an intimate scene that balances formal abstraction with a sense of everyday ritual.

The figure’s head and torso are expressed through vivid reds and pinks, contrasting harmoniously with the deep, muted blue of the vertically striped clothing. This deliberate color interplay conveys both warmth and calm, highlighting the artist’s sophisticated understanding of color theory. The simplified, angular forms that compose the figure emphasize volume and presence while maintaining a dynamic tension between flatness and dimensionality. In a subtle but significant detail, the figure extends a stylized hand holding a small, light brownish-pink container or plate, suggesting the act of partaking in a meal. The gesture is poised and reflective, reinforcing the mood of contemplation and repose permeating the composition. The container’s delicate color complements the surrounding hues, adding a focal point without disrupting the overall balance.

Beneath the figure, the floor or platform is rendered in a flat expanse of reddish-pink, grounding the composition and providing visual stability. The distinct separation between the figure and its base, achieved through strategic areas of darker shading, enhances the sculptural quality of the forms, evoking a sense of depth within the otherwise planar abstraction. The background is an orchestrated arrangement of muted geometric shapes, triangles and other polygons in soft blues, light mustard yellows, and black, that animate the space behind the figure. These scattered forms contribute rhythm and complexity, expanding the spatial narrative while maintaining cohesion through color and shape.

This painting exemplifies an exploration of formal composition, where abstraction becomes a vehicle for expressing everyday human experience. The artist deftly blends geometric precision with emotional subtlety, inviting viewers to reflect on moments of calm and nourishment through an abstracted lens. The title Breakfast resonates with this theme, encapsulating the essence of simple ritual and introspection portrayed in the work. This piece stands as a compelling synthesis of cubist influence and contemporary abstraction, demonstrating a mature and nuanced approach to form, color, and symbolic gesture within modern painting.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
