Artist: Fawad Tamkanat
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 40 × 40 inches (101.6 × 101.6 cm)
An evocative urban tableau unfolds in Cityscapes by Fawad Tamkanat, where the artist captures a densely clustered architectural environment that speaks to a rich historical or cultural context. This acrylic on canvas work offers a nuanced interpretation of a city, rendered through an impressionistic lens that emphasizes texture, atmosphere, and layered visual patterns.
The composition is dominated by an array of buildings exhibiting a variety of architectural styles, ranging from stately towers and elegant domes to gabled rooftops and arched entrances. The tonal spectrum of these structures traverses muted earth tones, tans, beiges, and browns, alongside deeper, shadowed hues that evoke a sense of age and resilience. A prominent clock tower crowned with a light-colored dome anchors the skyline, offering a symbolic and visual focal point.
Central to the painting’s spatial dynamics is a large deciduous tree, its golden-orange foliage rendered with a richness that contrasts and complements the earthy tones of the cityscape. The tree’s expansive branches weave through the built environment, creating a visual dialogue between nature and architecture, highlighting the coexistence of organic life amidst urban solidity. The sky above is a textured blend of grays, blues, and soft light tones, conjuring a moment poised between day and night, perhaps a contemplative sunrise or a fading sunset. This atmospheric backdrop not only reinforces the temporal ambiguity but also imbues the scene with a subtle emotional resonance, as light and shadow interplay across the surfaces of the buildings and the tree.
Tamkanat’s brushwork invites close observation, revealing an expressive, impressionistic style that captures both the physical texture of the city and the ephemeral quality of light. The painter’s focus on pattern and form within the clustered cityscape invites viewers to explore the complex rhythms of urban life, while simultaneously appreciating the quiet beauty of natural elements interspersed within it. Cityscapes stands as a testament to Tamkanat’s ability to blend cultural narrative with painterly innovation, producing a richly layered work that invites prolonged reflection on the relationship between environment, history, and human presence.

Why Choose Us
Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.
All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.
Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
