Jatin Das’s 2026 watercolor on paper, titled Dancing Shiva, exemplifies his signature celebration of the human form through swift, economical linework and raw kinetic energy.
The composition centers on the iconic figure of Shiva suspended in a dynamic, cosmic dance posture. Rendered in translucent washes of serene cerulean and slate blues, the deity’s body bursts with rhythmic tension. Sweeping black ink contours define the torso, outstretched arms, and bent limbs, giving the impression of constant, fluid motion rather than static posture. Hair flows weightlessly behind the crowned head, while draped sashes swirl around the hips, echoing the rotational momentum of the movement.
Set against a soft, blushing pink background, the cool tones of the central figure pop with brilliant clarity. Vertical bands of crimson red and teal along the canvas edges frame the action, grounding the airy composition. Das's masterful use of minimal brushwork captures both power and grace, allowing light to permeate the paper surface. Signed and dated at the lower left, this work captures the essence of divine energy through free-flowing line and luminous color, proving that true movement in art lies within the spontaneous gesture of the brush.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.
Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
