“Evening Prayer” by Manu Parekh is a captivating exploration of spiritual longing and cultural memory, brought to life through vibrant color, layered textures, and symbolic imagery. The composition is anchored by architectural forms reminiscent of temple structures, their domes rising against a golden-orange twilight sky. These shapes serve as metaphors for the spiritual journey grounded, familiar, yet reaching toward transcendence. At the center of the painting, an expressive figure, abstracted and radiant in reds, yellows, and greens, suggests the act of prayer, devotion, or inner reflection. The figure’s form appears to dissolve into its surroundings, echoing the idea of surrender and spiritual absorption. A glowing full sun hovers in the sky, casting a silvery reflection on the calm waters below. The interplay between light and darkness underscores the transitional moment of dusk, a time between day and night, action and stillness, worldly concerns and spiritual yearning. The water becomes a metaphor for introspection, with ripples of gold and blue emphasizing the quiet movement of time and thought.

On the left side of the painting, boats festooned with strings of colorful flags evoke festivity, tradition, and community rituals, while also suggesting the flow of life and journeys both physical and metaphysical. On the right, dark trees with dense branches provide contrast and frame the scene, grounding the composition and adding a sense of mystery and depth. Parekh’s use of vibrant colors, from the deep indigo waters to the fiery reds and oranges of the central figure,  creates a sense of warmth and intensity. The artist’s layered approach to texture, combined with abstract forms, lends the work a dreamlike quality, where reality and symbolism merge seamlessly. “Evening Prayer” is not just a visual experience but a contemplative invitation. It captures the quiet beauty of ritual and the deep emotional resonance of shared cultural practices, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own spiritual connections and the universal search for peace, meaning, and transcendence.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes.
