Edifices of Faith is a contemplative visual meditation on the multifaceted nature of belief. Executed in acrylic on canvas, the work draws upon both symbolic narrative and abstract expression to explore how faith is experienced, as a journey, an aspiration, a questioning, and a surrender. Rich in metaphor and layered with meaning, this composition invites viewers to reflect on the evolving and deeply personal dimensions of spiritual pursuit.

At the heart of the painting is a trail of footprints, gently leading toward a temple form. These imprints represent the individual's path toward faith, sometimes firm, sometimes fading, always in motion. They serve as subtle reminders of human seeking, the hesitant or resolute steps that mark one's spiritual progress. The temple, rendered in stylized geometry, stands as a metaphor for sacred space, symbolizing sanctuary, tradition, and the aspirational destination of belief.

Floating through the middle of the composition is a ship, gently sailing across the canvas. It suggests the fluid and often uncertain journey of the spiritual self. Unlike the stable form of the temple, the ship connotes motion, exploration, and transience, reminding the viewer that faith, for many, is not a fixed endpoint but a voyage of continual discovery. This element introduces a dynamic counterpoint to the otherwise anchored architectural forms, expanding the emotional and philosophical reach of the painting. Above, a radiant trishul (trident) hovers in the sky, a potent symbol of divine power and presence in Hindu iconography. Placed in the celestial realm, the trishul serves as an abstraction of the divine, unattainable yet omnipresent, offering protection, direction, and cosmic balance. It imbues the painting with spiritual gravity, suggesting that while the earthly path may be uncertain, there is always a higher order that guides and transcends it.

Rendered in Anand’s signature stylized idiom, the composition blends flat forms, layered textures, and a balanced color palette to create a contemplative yet visually engaging work. The visual restraint allows the symbolism to resonate more deeply, offering space for viewers to bring their own interpretations and spiritual narratives into dialogue with the artwork. Edifices of Faith exemplifies Anurag Anand’s capacity to merge personal philosophy with visual storytelling. It is a poignant reflection on the strength, fragility, and transformation of belief, expressed with nuance, grace, and spiritual intelligence.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
