Artist: Manu Parekh

Year: 2017

Bursting with vibrant color and dreamlike imagery, Morning Landscape by Manu Parekh presents a surreal and expressionistic vision of a cityscape that melds architecture, nature, and imagination. Executed in oil on canvas, this work invites viewers into a fantastical realm where bulbous-domed buildings rise from the landscape as if organically intertwined with the earth itself. The structures are rendered in deep, shadowy tones that contrast strikingly with the kaleidoscopic patterns adorning their walls—intricate, multicolored motifs that suggest rich cultural narratives and timeless craftsmanship.

Parekh’s palette here is both bold and evocative, dominated by fiery oranges, deep reds, lush greens, and dark purples, all balanced against inky blacks that give the scene a mysterious, almost theatrical atmosphere. The walls’ vivid ornamentation transforms the architecture from mere background into a living canvas, vibrating with symbolic energy and narrative possibility. This intricate detailing invites prolonged engagement, encouraging viewers to explore the layers of meaning embedded in the work’s decorative complexity.

Central to the composition is a small, dark rowboat that floats upon a body of water painted in an electrifying neon green, injecting an element of the uncanny into the scene. The water’s unnatural hue suggests both vitality and surrealism, amplifying the painting’s otherworldly ambiance. Overarching the scene, a large tree with dark, twisting branches casts a shadow that both anchors and heightens the composition’s sense of mystery and depth.

Stylistically, Morning Landscape epitomizes Parekh’s signature fusion of expressionism and abstraction. The exaggerated forms and vivid, almost hallucinatory colors evoke emotional intensity while maintaining a strong connection to place and memory. The cityscape is less a literal depiction than a poetic reimagining—an interplay of physical environment and inner vision that blurs the boundaries between reality and dream.

Manu Parekh’s work consistently explores themes of identity, spirituality, and the ephemeral nature of experience, and Morning Landscape is no exception. Through its dynamic interplay of form, color, and symbolism, the painting becomes a visual meditation on belonging and transformation. It encapsulates the artist’s enduring fascination with the mystique of place, offering a glimpse into a world where cultural heritage and imagination converge in luminous harmony.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes.
