Anurag Anand’s intricate, executed in acrylic on linen canvas, masterfully captures the delicate balance between nostalgia and modernity that defines contemporary urban experience. Through a complex layering of clustered houses, winding roads, and richly textured surfaces, Anand evokes the enduring memories of rural roots as they intertwine with the evolving rhythms of city life. This layered composition transforms the city into a living, breathing organism, dynamic, chaotic, and deeply humane.

The painting’s earthy palette, featuring warm ochres, browns, muted greens, and subtle grays, grounds the work in natural tones that speak to the artist’s connection with both land and community. Anand’s brushwork is storytelling in itself: deliberate yet fluid, it conveys the layered history embedded within the cityscape. The textured surfaces suggest worn walls and timeworn paths, inviting viewers to trace the passage of life and memory through urban space.

Anand’s clustered houses and winding roads serve as metaphors for the overlapping journeys and complex networks of human experience. The composition’s intricate layering reflects the coexistence of tradition and change, anchoring the viewer in a narrative that honors the past while acknowledging the present’s unpredictability. The city emerges as more than a mere backdrop, it is an active participant in shaping identity and collective memory. The artist’s nuanced approach to abstraction and detail encourages viewers to engage closely with the painting, discovering new elements within its textured planes and interwoven forms. The coexistence of chaos and order within the work mirrors the tensions of urban life: its unpredictability and vibrancy alongside a profound sense of belonging and continuity. This cityscape exemplifies Anand’s ability to translate complex emotional and cultural themes into visually compelling narratives. It offers a thoughtful meditation on place, memory, and transformation, making it a vital contribution to collections focused on contemporary urbanity, cultural heritage, and human experience. This acrylic on linen canvas piece invites contemplation of how cities are simultaneously physical spaces and repositories of lived histories, creating a bridge between past and present through artistic expression.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
