Nitasha Jaini’s City Love is a compelling fusion of abstraction, figuration, and architectural precision, presented through a unique interplay of mediums that challenge conventional boundaries between painting and sculptural installation. Central to the composition is a stylized figure, rendered in a delicate grayish-white hue, seemingly suspended within a recessed cavity that evokes both a well and a void. This figure, tenderly holding a bouquet of small, light reddish flowers, becomes a poignant focal point amidst a densely packed surrounding of silhouetted dark-blue figures, whose multitude forms a crowd that both contrasts and contextualizes the solitary central presence.

The artist’s innovative use of acrylic on canvas is complemented by an intricately crafted laser-cut board frame that elevates the work into a multidimensional experience. This architectural frame, designed with repeating geometric patterns reminiscent of a tall building or tower, features rows of cut-out windows and decorative dot motifs, lending the piece a distinctly urban texture. The precision of the laser-cut lines and shapes creates a rhythmic architectural language, amplifying the visual tension between the organic softness of the central figure and the structural rigidity of its enclosure.

This deliberate contrast extends the thematic inquiry of the work, exploring notions of isolation and connection within the urban milieu. The figure’s ethereal suspension within the cavity suggests vulnerability and introspection, while the surrounding crowd of dark silhouettes alludes to the impersonal density of city life. Yet the bouquet of flowers, an emblem of affection and hope, introduces an intimate counterpoint, hinting at the persistence of personal emotion amidst collective anonymity.

Jaini’s City Love masterfully negotiates the relationship between individual identity and communal existence, employing abstraction and architectural motifs to evoke a contemporary narrative of human experience in the metropolis. The three-dimensional effect of the frame enhances the visual depth, drawing viewers into a spatial dialogue that oscillates between enclosure and openness, presence and absence.

By integrating traditional painting with cutting-edge fabrication techniques, the artist not only redefines the boundaries of her medium but also invites a nuanced reflection on the complexities of urban life and the paradoxes of love within its impersonal scale. This work stands as a sophisticated meditation on solitude, belonging, and the fragile intersections of personal and collective worlds within the modern cityscape.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
