Pastoral Innocence presents an evocative vision of rural life, where landscape, human presence and animal companionship merge into a scene of quiet harmony. At the centre of the composition, a young girl in a flowing pink dress walks alongside a small group of goats, her figure appearing intimately connected to the natural world around her. The animals move towards the foreground, creating a gentle sense of rhythm and movement along the earthen path.
A large, richly painted tree dominates the upper right portion of the composition, offering both visual balance and a sense of shelter. Beyond it, the landscape opens into distant fields beneath a luminous, softly modulated sky. Kulathunga employs expressive brushwork and layered passages of colour to create an atmosphere that is at once immediate and dreamlike.
The painting's palette moves delicately between earthy browns, muted greens, luminous yellows and touches of rose and violet. Rather than focusing on photographic detail, the artist allows forms to dissolve and emerge through energetic, textured brushstrokes. This painterly approach imbues the work with emotional warmth and spontaneity. Pastoral Innocence becomes a poetic reflection on simplicity, childhood and the enduring tranquillity of life lived in close communion with the land.

Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.
Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.
Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
