Son of the Wind (Vayuputhra), 2026
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Size: 49 × 36 in (124.46 × 91.44 cm)
Shanaka Kulathunga presents Lord Hanuman with remarkable strength, contemplation, and raw spiritual energy, transforming the revered mythological figure into a deeply emotional and visually compelling presence. Through expressive brushwork and layered textures, the artist captures both the physical power and inner devotion associated with Hanuman, creating a portrait that feels timeless yet intensely contemporary. The composition radiates emotional depth, drawing viewers into a sacred atmosphere where spirituality and humanity coexist harmoniously.
Rich textures and dramatic lighting play a vital role in enhancing the emotional intensity of the artwork. Shanaka Kulathunga uses luminous highlights and shadowed contrasts to sculpt the figure with a sense of movement and psychological presence. Earthy tones blended with fiery accents evoke courage, sacrifice, and divine energy, while the painterly surface adds rhythm and vitality to the composition. The layered application of colour and texture creates an almost tactile quality, allowing the image to feel alive with devotion and spiritual force.
Kulathunga’s expressive portrait style transforms traditional mythological imagery into intimate human narratives filled with emotion and symbolism. Rather than depicting Hanuman solely as a divine icon, the artist reveals moments of introspection, resilience, and compassion within the figure. His interpretation beautifully bridges ancient mythology with contemporary artistic language, making the deity accessible to modern audiences while preserving its sacred essence. Through this powerful visual approach, Shanaka Kulathunga celebrates Indian gods with reverence, vitality, and painterly elegance, creating artworks that resonate beyond religious symbolism and speak to universal human emotion, faith, and inner strength.

Why Choose Us
Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.
All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.
Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.
Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
