Rendered in a naïve, folk-art idiom, this evocative village scene by Anurag Anand captures the quiet rhythms of rural life with both textured detail and emotional clarity. At the heart of the composition is a gently winding path that draws the viewer inward, toward a solitary female figure who stands in still reflection. Surrounding her, the scene comes alive with understated narrative: children playing, a barking dog, and homes nestled within a landscape shaped by memory as much as observation. The painting’s expressive sky and warm, earthy palette, rich in hues of red earth, sun-faded ochres, and deep blue-greys, imbue the work with a nostalgic glow. These colors, signature to Anurag’s practice, recall monsoon skies and late-summer dusk, anchoring the piece in both time and place. The brushwork is intentionally unpolished, retaining the charm and raw energy of folk expression, yet the emotional layers beneath the surface suggest a mature and introspective vision.
The rural setting is not romanticized but presented with reverence and honesty, emphasizing the emotional weight of everyday life. His delicate interplay of natural and manmade elements, mud homes, tree-lined paths, animals, and human figures, forms a cohesive world that feels both intimate and timeless. Subtle symbolism enriches the scene, even when not overt. In many of his works, Anurag integrates familiar creatures like a cat, hare, or tortoise, fragments of childhood memory, seamlessly folded into the narrative. In this piece, it is the shared space between solitude and community that becomes symbolic, a gentle reminder of the quiet dignity found in rural existence. Paintings do not demand attention, but quietly invite it. His works are contemplative spaces that hold rather than dominate, making them emotionally resonant in today’s increasingly disconnected world. The viewer is not merely looking at a scene; they are stepping into it, allowed a moment of pause, connection, and reflection. In this village scene, Anurag Anand weaves together memory, emotion, and place, offering a painting that is as heartfelt as it is timeless. It is a tribute to the overlooked poetry of the everyday, and an enduring testament to the artist’s gift for subtle storytelling.

Why Choose Us
Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.
All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.
Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
