Maity’s evocative canvas unfolds as a vibrant symphony of ochre and cerulean, masterfully capturing the enigmatic soul of Varanasi with a profound impressionistic fervor. This painting transcends mere representation, immersing viewers in a sensorial journey through the city’s iconic ghats and temples, which emerge and dissolve with fluidity into the sacred waters of the Ganges. The artist’s deft manipulation of color and form conveys a seamless interplay between the physical and the spiritual, embodying the city’s timeless essence and its enduring sacredness.

The composition is defined by dynamic, flowing brushstrokes that echo the rhythm of daily rituals performed along the riverbanks, prayers, ablutions, and the vibrant ceremonies that mark the cyclical interplay of life and death. Rich ochres and deep blues dominate the palette, symbolizing the earthiness of human existence and the transcendental qualities of the divine river, respectively. These hues intermingle to create a textured, almost luminous surface that evokes the shimmering reflections of water, the warm glow of temple lamps, and the misty dawn light that bathes the ancient city.

Maity’s impressionistic approach dissolves the architectural solidity of Varanasi’s ghats into an atmospheric haze, suggesting both permanence and impermanence, the eternal flow of the Ganges as a metaphor for spiritual continuity amid the transient nature of human life. This technique invites the viewer to experience not just a physical landscape, but an emotional and metaphysical space where the sacred and the everyday coexist in harmonious tension.

Through this visual rhapsody, the artist encapsulates Varanasi’s enduring cultural essence and spiritual vitality, offering a meditative encounter that resonates deeply with India’s complex heritage. The painting stands as a tribute to the eternal connection between humanity and the divine river, evoking reverence, introspection, and a profound sense of belonging. It is an invitation to contemplate the mysteries of faith, tradition, and the ceaseless flow of existence that defines this ancient city’s heartbeat.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes.
