Throne of the Wild, 2026

Shanaka Kulathunga presents a mystical and emotionally resonant vision in this captivating work, where a mythical figure is immersed within a vibrant ecosystem of birds, branches, and celestial forms. The composition unfolds like a dreamscape, filled with symbolic imagery that reflects humanity’s profound spiritual connection with nature and the untamed energies of existence. Through layered visual elements and fluid movement, the artist creates an atmosphere where the boundaries between the human, natural, and divine worlds dissolve into one harmonious presence.

Birds glide through the composition as symbols of freedom, transcendence, and spiritual awakening, while intertwining branches evoke growth, continuity, and the interconnected rhythm of life. Celestial forms hovering within the scene introduce an otherworldly dimension, suggesting cosmic forces that guide and shape human consciousness. The central figure appears suspended between reality and myth, embodying both vulnerability and spiritual strength. Through this symbolic fusion, Kulathunga transforms the painting into a meditation on humanity’s relationship with wilderness, instinct, memory, and the sacred cycles of nature.

The artist’s expressive brushwork and luminous colour palette intensify the emotional and poetic quality of the work. Vibrant tones blend seamlessly with atmospheric textures, allowing the imagery to feel alive with movement and spiritual energy. His painterly language balances abstraction and figuration with remarkable sensitivity, enabling viewers to interpret the composition through both emotional intuition and symbolic reflection. The surreal arrangement of forms creates a sense of timelessness, as though the scene exists within a realm beyond ordinary perception.

Through this imaginative and spiritually charged composition, Shanaka Kulathunga creates a poetic exploration of coexistence between humanity, divinity, and the natural world. His contemporary artistic vision celebrates the mystery and vitality of existence, revealing a universe where wilderness, myth, and consciousness merge into a deeply symbolic and transcendent visual experience.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
