This vibrant abstract painting presents a captivating portrayal of a woman, rendered in a bold, stylized manner that merges traditional and contemporary artistic influences. The composition focuses on the woman’s upper torso and head, depicted with a distinctive block-like structure that emphasizes geometric shapes and expressive form. The woman’s attire features a richly patterned reddish-orange top, intricately adorned with motifs resembling small figures or symbols. These detailed designs create a textured visual effect that adds depth and cultural resonance to the piece. The warm color palette, dominated by oranges, reds, yellows, and earthy browns, imbues the painting with vitality and warmth, reinforcing the figure’s dynamic presence.

A striking feature of the work is the division of the woman’s face, which appears as two merged perspectives or a dual-faced representation. This creative choice evokes a sense of layered identity and complexity, suggesting multiple facets of the self or a dialogue between inner and outer worlds. Simplified yet expressive facial features, including prominent eyes and a subtle, enigmatic smile, convey emotion and individuality within the abstracted form.

The angular purple head covering or scarf introduces a contrasting cool tone that complements the warm hues while adding structural interest to the composition. Its sharp, geometric rendering enhances the modern aesthetic of the painting, balancing tradition with contemporary stylization. The background is a deep, dark brown, enriched with hints of gold-toned rectangular shapes scattered throughout. This backdrop not only harmonizes with the overall color scheme but also creates a sense of depth and rhythm, drawing attention to the central figure while suggesting an abstracted environment or symbolic space. By blending elements reminiscent of folk or tribal art with a contemporary abstract style, this painting explores themes of identity, cultural heritage, and emotional complexity. Its bold composition and textured surfaces invite viewers to engage deeply with the layered narrative embedded in the imagery.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
