This evocative composition pays homage to the enduring rhythms of rural life through a striking portrayal of familial intimacy and cultural rootedness. At its core stands a commanding figure whose robust form is rendered with sculptural clarity, anchored firmly in a palette of earthy tones. The solidity of this figure evokes a grounded strength—a visual embodiment of resilience born from a life shaped by labor, land, and lineage. Draped in stylized garments and adorned with traditional motifs, the figure becomes more than an individual; it is a symbol of generational endurance and collective memory.

Perched tenderly on the shoulder is a child, whose presence shifts the narrative from stoic strength to emotional connection. This gesture, at once casual and deeply symbolic, captures a poignant moment of shared trust, dependence, and unspoken love. It is through this subtle interplay of posture and proximity that the composition transforms into a lyrical meditation on the bonds of kinship. The child’s placement not only lightens the figure's monumental presence but also adds a vertical dynamism that guides the viewer’s eye across the composition.

Executed with a precise yet expressive linearity, the work exudes a rhythm that echoes the ornamental traditions of folk aesthetics. The contours of the figures are sharply defined, yet fluid, imparting a sense of movement that animates the static form. This use of bold, deliberate outlines flattens the pictorial space, drawing attention to surface pattern and detail while imbuing the work with a graphic immediacy. Such stylization blurs the boundary between figuration and abstraction, grounding the work in cultural vernacular while elevating it to the realm of timeless visual storytelling.

This artwork transcends portraiture to become a celebration of rootedness and affection. It offers a quiet yet powerful narrative that speaks of love expressed through presence, protection, and continuity. In doing so, it invites viewers to reflect on the quiet dignity of everyday life and the sacredness of familial bonds woven into the fabric of tradition.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
