This striking abstract portrait commands attention with its bold, geometric rendering of a woman’s head and shoulders. The artist employs a rich, intense color palette dominated by deep reds, burnt oranges, golds, dark blues, and profound blacks. These hues create a vibrant interplay of warmth and shadow, emphasizing the emotional complexity and sculptural quality of the figure.

The face itself is fragmented and stylized, broken down into sharp lines and planes that suggest both form and abstraction. Rather than aiming for literal realism, the composition deconstructs the facial features into distinct sections of color, evoking the layered nature of identity and perception. A significant portion of the visage is engulfed in deep, textured black shadow, which obscures details and introduces a sense of mystery and introspection. The bold red lips stand out vividly against the darker tones, drawing the viewer’s gaze, while the eyes appear closed or partially shut, an indication of contemplation or inner focus.

This stylistic fragmentation invites viewers to engage with the portrait beyond surface appearance, suggesting themes of duality, concealment, and the multiplicity of the self. The interplay of light and shadow, coupled with the geometric abstraction, lends the figure a sculptural, almost mask-like presence. The background continues the theme of layered depth through a similar palette and technique, creating a harmonious yet complex environment that both supports and contrasts the figure. Brushstrokes and color gradations work together to enhance the three-dimensional effect, drawing the viewer deeper into the visual narrative. Through its dynamic composition and evocative use of color and form, this portrait transcends traditional representation. It offers a powerful exploration of identity, emotion, and the ways in which we see, and conceal, ourselves.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
