This compelling painting captures an intimate moment between two women depicted in a close embrace, evoking themes of emotional connection, solidarity, and shared experience. Rendered in a stylized and geometric manner, the figures’ simplified forms and overlapping faces suggest a deep bond that transcends individuality, presenting them almost as one unified presence.

The women’s faces are layered and superimposed, a visual metaphor for interconnectedness and mutual understanding. Their features are reduced to essential shapes and planes, allowing color and composition to convey the emotional resonance rather than literal representation. The warm palette, dominated by vibrant oranges, reds, and golds, is rich with cultural significance, evoking warmth, vitality, and spiritual energy. Accents of darker browns and blacks add contrast, depth, and balance to the composition.

Clad in traditional Indian garments or attire inspired by similar cultural dress, the figures’ clothing is adorned with intricate stylized patterns. These patterns provide a rhythmic visual texture, contributing to the overall harmony of the piece. The use of pattern and color invites reflection on cultural identity and heritage as integral components of the figures’ relationship. The background features a textured golden-beige tone, applied with visible brushstrokes that create a subtle sense of depth and dimensionality. This nuanced backdrop acts as a calm and grounding space that contrasts with and highlights the vivid figures at the painting’s center.

The posture of the figures, hands resting gently on each other’s shoulders and upper backs, emphasizes their closeness and mutual support. The dynamic yet tender positioning reflects both physical and emotional intimacy, inviting viewers to contemplate the nature of relationships, empathy, and companionship. This painting eloquently expresses the universal human need for connection and the strength found in unity. Through its bold use of color, stylized form, and symbolic layering, it invites a nuanced reading of identity, community, and the shared experiences that bind us.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
