A sumptuous and intricately detailed painting that invites viewers into a richly appointed interior space, evoking the grandeur and refinement sitting room. The work captures the elegance of a bygone era with remarkable painterly skill, blending a warm, inviting color palette with meticulous textural detail.
Dominating the composition is an elaborate fireplace framed by an ornate mantelpiece and flanked by shelves brimming with decorative objects. Candlesticks, delicate vases, clocks, and other small collectibles are arranged thoughtfully, offering a glimpse into the refined tastes and cultivated lifestyle of the room’s inhabitants. Above the mantel, a large mirror reflects a serene landscape, perhaps a garden or park, bringing an element of nature indoors and deepening the spatial complexity of the scene. A magnificent chandelier, rendered with shimmering golds and intricate detailing, hangs from the ceiling, casting an implied glow that enhances the overall atmosphere of opulence. The warm tones of ochre, gold, and deep red saturate the space, enriching the textures of the furnishings and walls and creating a harmonious, enveloping ambiance.
In the foreground, a table laden with bowls and baskets overflowing with fresh fruit adds a tactile and sensory dimension to the room. Surrounding chairs and plush furniture complete the setting, suggesting a space designed for comfort, conversation, and social gathering. Shakeel’s masterful brushwork and textured paint application imbue the scene with a painterly quality that balances realism with expressive depth. The surface reveals subtle variations in light and shadow, enhancing the three-dimensionality of the objects and architectural features. This attention to detail not only celebrates the craftsmanship of the room itself but also the artist’s dedication to capturing the nuances of light, texture, and materiality. A celebration of historical elegance and an intimate study of interior space. Through this richly layered work, M. Shakeel invites viewers to step into a world of luxury, tradition, and quiet sophistication, a timeless tableau of beauty and refinement.

Why Choose Us
Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.
All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.
Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
