Work is an expansive and serene composition that transports the viewer to a tranquil coastal setting. Executed in a representational yet decoratively stylized manner, the large-scale painting captures the inviting ambiance of a sunlit seaside terrace as seen through a pair of wide-open double doors, blurring the boundaries between interior comfort and the natural world beyond. In the immediate foreground, a soft beige and tan wooden deck extends outward, suggesting a spacious patio or balcony. Carefully arranged folding chairs, a small table draped in a light linen cloth, and other subtle furnishings contribute to a lived-in, leisurely atmosphere. These elements ground the viewer in the intimacy of the space, inviting a moment of pause or reflection.

Just beyond the terrace, a vast, calm ocean stretches toward the horizon. Deep blue waters are dotted with white sailboats gliding effortlessly, their forms small yet significant, adding a sense of life and movement to the otherwise quiet seascape. The sky above is rendered in pale gray-blue tones, suggesting an overcast or early morning light that softens the entire palette and evokes a contemplative, coastal calm. Framing the ocean are lush tropical landscapes on either side. On the left, palm trees and dense greenery conjure the warmth of an island setting, while on the right, soft rolling hills and shoreline vegetation echo the natural beauty of a distant coastline. This balance of flora, water, and sky reflects Shakeel’s skill in creating depth and harmony within a carefully constructed composition. A striped couch in light blue and white occupies the lower left quadrant of the painting, drawing the viewer’s eye inward and anchoring the transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Soft beige cushions add warmth and texture, enhancing the sense of quiet relaxation and domestic tranquility.

The painting is framed in a light yellowish-tan border, complementing the gentle, sun-washed tones throughout the work. The overall aesthetic is calm, welcoming, and restorative, a window into a peaceful escape. Painting is not just a scenic representation; it’s an immersive environment. M. Shakeel masterfully creates a moment of visual and emotional stillness, inviting viewers to step into a space of simplicity, openness, and gentle coastal beauty.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
