This evocative portrait transcends conventional representation, inviting viewers into a deeply emotional and tactile exploration of feminine identity and resilience. The artist’s use of textured impasto creates a palpable surface quality, where thick, expressive brushstrokes lend the composition a rich physicality that draws the eye and invites touch. This material intensity enhances the sensuality of the work, making the subject’s presence not only visual but almost tangible.

The color palette is bold and arresting, carefully calibrated to evoke mood and emotional complexity. Deep, warm hues contrast with cooler tones to create visual tension, mirroring the subject’s internal dualities, strength and vulnerability, defiance and introspection. The interplay of light and shadow further animates the portrait, lending it a dynamic quality that shifts with the viewer’s gaze.

Central to the composition is the subject’s gaze, which holds a captivating ambiguity. There is a languid, almost languishing quality to the eyes, both open and withdrawn, that simultaneously conveys vulnerability and quiet defiance. This duality invites a nuanced engagement, encouraging the viewer to confront not only the subject’s external form but also the intricate emotional landscape beneath the surface.

A striking feature within the portrait is the exaggerated nose ring, rendered with deliberate emphasis to elevate it beyond mere ornamentation. It functions as a potent symbol, embodying themes of cultural identity, personal agency, and silent rebellion. This bold gesture serves as a visual anchor within the composition, challenging conventional expectations and asserting individuality within a broader social context.

The work engages with the complexities of representation and identity politics, offering a layered narrative that resists easy categorization. It interrogates the boundaries between traditional notions of beauty and power, reclaiming the feminine mystique through a contemporary lens that embraces imperfection and nuance.

This portrait stands as a compelling meditation on strength, sensuality, and the enduring tensions within selfhood. Its textured surfaces and expressive colors combine to create an immersive experience that resonates long after the initial encounter, making it a profound exploration of the human condition through the lens of feminine identity.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
