This portrait, delivers a powerful visual experience through a bold exploration of color, texture, and emotional resonance. The painting focuses on a woman’s face, portrayed with a contemplative stillness that invites prolonged reflection. Her eyes are closed, lips gently set, and expression serene, evoking a mood of introspection, rest, or meditative silence.
Rendered in a richly expressive style that straddles the boundaries of abstraction and impressionism, the portrait is composed with vivid, unconventional hues. Striking overlays of green, teal, yellow, and purple cascade across the face, disrupting naturalism in favor of emotional truth. These vibrant tones interweave with the more muted skin tones beneath, creating a layered, almost dreamlike effect. The face seems to emerge from within the colors themselves, as if shaped by feeling and memory rather than light and shadow.
Kumar’s masterful use of texture is a defining element of the composition. Thick brush strokes and impasto techniques build a tactile surface that heightens the painting's physical presence. Each stroke feels intentional, contributing not only to the form of the face but also to the psychological complexity it conveys. The layered paint draws attention to the hand of the artist, reinforcing the expressive and personal nature of the work. The woman's full, dark lips, almost black in color, anchor the composition with visual weight and emotional intensity. In contrast, her closed eyes suggest a turning inward, a moment suspended in private thought or unspoken narrative. This interplay between intensity and stillness gives the portrait its captivating duality.
The background is rendered in deep, shadowed tones that offer contrast and focus, allowing the figure to stand out with heightened clarity. The darkness behind her is not empty but charged with atmosphere, reinforcing the emotional depth of the subject. This painting stands as a compelling meditation on identity, emotion, and the internal world, offering viewers both visual impact and poetic subtlety. It is a portrait not just of a face, but of a state of being.

Why Choose Us
Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.
All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.
Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
