A striking meditation on form and expression, this square-format oil on canvas by Dhiraj Choudhary exemplifies his signature blend of stylized figuration and psychological nuance. Central to the composition is a prominently rendered face, elongated and abstracted, evoking both human vulnerability and timeless archetype. With a pale cream base and layered accents in warm browns, ochres, and purples, the visage becomes a field of emotional resonance, its closed eyes and pronounced features suggesting introspection or quietude.
Rendered with a tactile richness, the facial planes are articulated through a technique that merges painterly brushwork with expressive mark-making. Subtle orange-red accents on the cheeks serve not only to heighten the facial warmth but also to imbue the subject with a sense of lived presence. The nose, long and defined, becomes a central axis, while the eyelids, gently shut, deny the viewer direct gaze, creating a meditative distance that deepens the enigmatic quality of the figure.
Nestled close to the central subject is a secondary, smaller face or creature-like form, rendered in a softer, pale peach hue. This juxtaposition opens interpretive pathways: is the smaller figure a child, an inner self, a symbolic companion, or an extension of the psyche? Its proximity to the larger face invites readings of duality, memory, or emotional intimacy, while its delicate modeling and shared palette reinforce visual harmony. Set against a somber, charcoal-gray background, the luminous figures emerge with pronounced clarity. The dark ground functions not only as negative space but as a conceptual void, heightening the symbolic charge of the central forms. In the lower left quadrant, a stylized, reddish-orange plant or leaf form interrupts the grayscale background, providing a rhythmic counterpoint and suggesting themes of organic growth or rootedness.
The painting's surface reveals Choudhary’s nuanced handling of oil paint, where areas of smooth gradation coexist with gestural strokes and etched textures. This materiality, sensuous yet controlled, underscores the artist’s investment in both emotive and formal concerns. His compositional restraint, coupled with symbolic ambiguity, positions the work within a broader lineage of Indian modernism, while also echoing global movements in expressionism and psychological portraiture. Dhiraj Choudhary’s canvas thus becomes a contemplative space, where form, color, and emotion intersect to reveal the quiet power of visual introspection.

Why Choose Us
Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.
All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.
Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
