This abstract oil on canvas by K.M. Adimoolam is a compelling exploration of tonal complexity, gesture, and emotional depth. Known for his profound engagement with form and abstraction, Adimoolam here constructs a richly textured composition that draws the viewer into a contemplative visual experience.

The painting is composed primarily of a restrained palette, various shades of gray, muted brown, and deep blue form the foundational layers. These tones are applied with thick, expressive brushstrokes that do not aim to conceal the painter's hand but rather celebrate it. The surface is alive with gestural movement, creating a tactile quality that invites close observation. Rather than blending colors smoothly, Adimoolam chooses to emphasize their raw separations, allowing distinct shapes and fields to emerge within the overall framework of abstraction.

Scattered across the canvas are interspersed patches of darker gray and black, offering moments of visual weight and grounding. These darker zones contrast with lighter areas of soft gray, off-white, and hints of golden-brown, tones that lend the painting a gentle luminosity. The contrast between dark and light is not abrupt but thoughtfully balanced, enhancing the sense of depth and spatial layering that defines the work. Striking interruptions of saturated, almost turquoise blue punctuate the composition. These vivid moments of color appear sporadically yet deliberately, injecting a sense of rhythm and surprise into the otherwise subdued palette. Their brightness stands out without overwhelming, acting as visual accents that draw the eye across the canvas and reframe the surrounding tones.

Although entirely non-representational, the work conveys an intuitive sense of atmosphere and dimension. The layering of colors and the visible brushwork suggest shifting forms and spatial relationships, while still maintaining the painting’s abstract integrity. There is no fixed focal point; instead, the eye is encouraged to wander, discovering subtle transitions, contrasts, and textures. This piece exemplifies K.M. Adimoolam’s mastery of abstraction, his ability to use color, form, and texture to evoke feeling without depicting the tangible. The absence of recognizable imagery is not a void but an invitation: to reflect, to feel, and to engage with the painting on a sensory and emotional level. Through this meditative and richly layered composition, Adimoolam offers a powerful statement on the quiet intensity and limitless potential of abstract expression.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
