This untitled abstract painting by Sohan Qadri unfolds as a quiet, contemplative landscape rendered in muted tones and textured forms. Set against a light sage-green canvas, the composition is at once minimal and complex, offering a subtle dialogue between form, color, and surface. At first glance, the painting appears understated, but its layered construction reveals a depth that invites prolonged looking.

A cluster of irregular, organic shapes dominates the central area, executed in earthy hues ranging from rich browns and greenish-browns to subdued grey-greens. These shapes seem to float and merge, overlapping gently without any sharply defined contours. The forms are suggestive of natural or geological elements, stone, moss, sediment, evoking the slow, organic processes of growth and transformation in the natural world. The overall visual effect recalls stratified rock surfaces or aerial views of undisturbed terrain.

Texture plays a central role in this work. The underlying surface of the canvas, its grid-like weave or mesh, remains partially visible beneath the layers of paint, grounding the composition in a tactile reality. This visible texture lends the painting a physical presence, subtly referencing the materiality of Qadri’s process while also enhancing the sense of depth. The layered application of media creates a dimensional surface that seems to oscillate between solidity and translucence. The palette is restrained but resonant. The interaction of earthy tones with the soft sage background creates a sense of harmony and calm. There are no jarring contrasts, only gentle transitions, each hue and texture seems to emerge from the other. This balance is further reinforced by the absence of symmetry, allowing the forms to evolve naturally across the canvas, echoing the intuitive rhythms of nature.

In this painting, as in much of his work, Sohan Qadri transforms abstraction into a meditative language. He invites the viewer into a silent space, where form, texture, and color suggest more than they describe, and where the act of viewing becomes an experience of inward stillness. The painting stands as a quiet monument to presence, perception, and the sacred order of organic life.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
