Anurag Anand’s evocative mixed media piece centers on a charming ice cream cart, transforming a simple village lane into a vibrant hub of childhood excitement and communal joy. Rendered on handmade paper, this work invites viewers into a sensory-rich moment that celebrates the small pleasures that define growing up in close-knit rural communities. At the heart of the composition, children eagerly gather around the cart, their joyful anticipation palpable through Anand’s warm palette and layered textures. The earthy tones interwoven with soft highlights of pastel colors evoke the sweetness of the treats and the lingering warmth of summer afternoons. Anand’s textured brushwork and delicate layering add a tactile depth to the scene, enhancing its immersive quality and the viewer’s emotional connection.

The ice cream cart, a humble yet powerful symbol, becomes a beacon of delight and shared experience. Through this motif, Anand captures not only the sensory pleasures of childhood, the taste of cool sweets, the sound of laughter, the shimmer of sunlight, but also the social fabric that knits communities together. The painting evokes a sense of belonging, nostalgia, and the fleeting magic of moments that, while ordinary in appearance, hold profound significance in memory.

Anand’s use of handmade paper contributes an organic quality to the artwork, its natural texture underscoring the authenticity and intimacy of the scene. The medium’s inherent irregularities complement the layered technique, mirroring the layered emotions and collective memories that the painting seeks to express. The composition is carefully balanced, with the cart serving as a focal point amid softly suggested village homes and natural elements, reinforcing the interconnectedness of people, place, and moment. Anand’s mastery in transforming everyday experiences into poetic visual narratives. It invites reflection on the role of simple joys in shaping identity and community, making it a valuable addition to collections exploring childhood, memory, and cultural heritage. Set of 5/9 in the edition, the painting resonates with warmth and universality, offering viewers a heartfelt glimpse into the sensory and social rhythms of village life.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
