Anurag Anand’s mixed media work presents a whimsical and richly layered villagescape, where crooked houses, tender trees, and curious birds engage in an almost dreamlike choreography. Rendered on textured handmade paper, this piece blurs the boundaries between the animate and inanimate, as Anand subtly anthropomorphizes the village structures, one house reaching out with arms, another leaning gently, transforming them into emotive participants within the scene. Through this imaginative approach, the artist breathes life into architectural forms, making the built environment a vessel of feeling and memory.
The composition is woven together by winding paths and a solitary bridge, symbolic elements that evoke journeys, connections, and the passage of time. These motifs encourage the viewer to consider not only physical movement through space but also the metaphorical voyages through memory and emotion. Anand’s gentle distortions and surreal balance imbue the scene with a lyrical quality, inviting the audience to wander through a landscape that feels at once familiar and otherworldly. The artist’s choice of mixed media on handmade paper enhances the tactile richness of the work, contributing to its layered texture and visual depth. The natural irregularities of the paper surface complement Anand’s subtle use of line and color, reinforcing the organic quality of the village and its inhabitants. The muted yet warm palette underscores the nostalgic tone of the piece, while soft tonal variations draw the eye across the intricate details of the composition.
This painting stands as a testament to Anand’s ability to blend narrative subtlety with poetic imagery. It invites viewers to reflect on themes of home, belonging, and the intertwining of human experience with place. The surreal anthropomorphism acts as a metaphor for the emotional resonance that architecture and landscape can hold within collective and personal memory. Set of 4/9 in this edition, the work is a compelling exploration of how the seemingly mundane can become a rich terrain of emotional and symbolic meaning. Anand’s villagescape is not merely a depiction of a physical locale but a sensitive, evocative journey into the heart of nostalgia and the fluid nature of memory.

Why Choose Us
Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.
All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.
Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
