Anurag Anand’s evocative mixed media work on handmade paper beautifully brings to life the cherished memories of a village school, where children gather amidst converging paths under an open sky. Rendered in warm golden hues and textured brushstrokes, this piece captures the innocence, curiosity, and vibrant spirit that define early education in rural settings. The soaring bird above the scene adds a poetic metaphor, symbolizing the dreams and aspirations carried by the young learners.

The composition is thoughtfully balanced, with the village school serving as a nurturing focal point that anchors the interconnected paths. Anand’s use of textured layering enriches the visual depth, evoking the tactile quality of natural surroundings and the lively energy of youthful camaraderie. The soft, warm palette imbues the painting with a sense of nostalgia and timelessness, inviting viewers to revisit the simple yet profound moments of discovery and friendship that school life fosters.

More than a depiction of formal education, Anand’s work reflects the school as a social and emotional space, a place where children not only acquire knowledge but also build lasting bonds, experience freedom, and take their first steps toward understanding the wider world. The convergence of paths signifies these multiple journeys, both literal and metaphorical, emphasizing connection and growth within a supportive community framework. The choice of handmade paper as a medium further enhances the work’s organic and authentic feel, its textured surface resonating with the natural environment and the lived realities of village life. Anand’s delicate brushwork and layered technique create a nuanced interplay between detail and abstraction, allowing the scene to breathe and encouraging viewers to engage with their own memories and interpretations.

Anand’s talent for translating personal and cultural memories into universally resonant visual narratives. It invites reflection on the formative role of education within community and identity, celebrating childhood as a foundational experience rich with potential and hope. Set of 1/9 in this limited edition, this artwork holds enduring relevance and emotional depth, making it a valuable addition to collections exploring themes of childhood, learning, and cultural heritage.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
