Year: 2025

A naïve landscape of a riverside village, rendered with simplicity and evocative warmth. Through the use of bold lines and simplified shapes, Anand captures the essence of a community nestled along the riverbank, where flat-roofed buildings cluster together in harmonious yellows, oranges, browns, and muted blues. The composition invites viewers into a serene rural world, grounded in the rhythms of daily life and natural surroundings.

A prominent green tree on the left side anchors the scene, providing a vibrant counterpoint to the earthy tones that dominate the village architecture. This tree serves as a symbol of life and continuity amid the human-built environment, its stylized form reinforcing the painting’s expressive simplicity. The boats floating gently on the bluish-gray river add movement and narrative, suggesting the vital role of the river as both a lifeline and a connector of people.

The small bridge spanning the river further enhances the composition’s sense of place and community, symbolizing passage, connection, and transition. Anand’s choice of an earthy, shaded palette evokes the natural terrain bathed in low-angle light, perhaps early morning or late afternoon, imbuing the scene with a tranquil, contemplative atmosphere. The muted colors and soft contrasts suggest a moment suspended in time, inviting viewers to appreciate the quiet beauty of this rural landscape.

Anand’s stylistic approach, combining naïve art’s straightforwardness with a refined sense of composition and color harmony, lends the work both immediacy and depth. The flatness of the shapes and the bold outlines emphasize the structural and architectural qualities of the village, while the textured brushwork and color layering create subtle visual interest and dimension. Anand’s ability to distill complex environments into accessible, emotionally resonant imagery. It reflects his ongoing engagement with themes of community, place, and the intimate relationship between people and their surroundings. This acrylic on canvas piece is a valuable addition to any collection exploring rural landscapes, folk-inspired aesthetics, and the nuanced interplay of color and form in contemporary Indian art.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
