This square abstract painting by Achuthan Kudallur exemplifies a exploration of color, form, and spatial dynamics through a carefully orchestrated interplay of geometric shapes and expressive brushwork. The composition is dominated by a harmonious palette of grays, whites, purples, and blues, punctuated by subtle hints of pink and red that enrich the visual experience without overwhelming the overall tonal balance. This restrained yet vibrant color scheme enhances the painting’s contemplative atmosphere and invites viewers into an immersive, non-representational visual dialogue.

Kudallur’s composition is an intricate mosaic of varied shapes, rectangles, squares, circles, and linear elements, that interlock and overlap across the canvas, generating a dynamic sense of movement and rhythm. The juxtaposition of angular forms with softer, rounded shapes creates a compelling tension that energizes the surface while maintaining a cohesive spatial organization. This balance between geometric precision and organic fluidity exemplifies a nuanced understanding of abstraction’s capacity to evoke emotional resonance through formal elements alone. The artist’s brushwork further enriches the textural quality of the painting. Varying from thick, impasto strokes to more delicate, translucent layers, the paint application adds depth and complexity, accentuating the dimensionality of the shapes and enhancing the sensory engagement. The visible layering suggests a process of continual refinement and reconfiguration, where surface and form evolve in tandem, echoing the fluidity and unpredictability inherent to abstract art.

The presence of the artist’s signature in the lower right corner serves as a discreet anchor within the composition, subtly affirming authorship while integrating seamlessly into the overall design. This detail not only personalizes the work but also situates it within Kudallur’s broader oeuvre, characterized by a persistent inquiry into abstraction’s formal and emotive potentials. Positioned within contemporary abstract practices, this work dialogues with both the geometric abstraction traditions of the early 20th century and the textured, process-oriented approaches of modern abstraction. It reflects a sophisticated engagement with color theory, compositional balance, and surface modulation, making it a significant example of abstract painting that invites prolonged reflection and multifaceted interpretation. Through this nuanced interplay of shape, color, and texture, Kudallur crafts a visual experience that is at once intellectually stimulating and aesthetically resonant.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
