Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 12 × 12 inches (30.48 × 30.48 cm)

This square abstract painting by Achuthan Kudallur, elegantly framed in silver, presents a rich, layered composition that masterfully explores the interplay of color, texture, and movement. The artist employs a deep and intense palette dominated by dark blues, blacks, and vibrant reds, set against an underlying backdrop of dark brown-black tones that anchor the piece with a profound depth.

The base layers create a dramatic foundation, where the dark blues and blacks merge seamlessly with the brooding brown hues, evoking a sense of mystery and intensity. These foundational colors are punctuated by vibrant reds positioned prominently above, enriched by small white striations and contrasting dark accents. This section introduces a graphic design sensibility, where the interplay of sharp lines and colors generates visual tension and rhythm. The composition lies a broad horizontal band filled with varied shades of blue, including captivating turquoise and teal hues. This vibrant section acts as a visual counterpoint to the darker base layers, infusing the painting with a refreshing luminosity. Scattered throughout this area are delicate flecks of white and red, adding intricate detail and further enhancing the textural complexity of the piece.

Kudallur’s brushwork remains visibly dynamic and expressive across the canvas, lending the painting a palpable sense of energy and movement. The textured surfaces and layered application of acrylic paint invite viewers to experience the composition not only visually but also tactically, as the varied brushstrokes create a lively surface interplay. Kudallur’s deft ability to balance bold abstraction with subtle nuance. Through the careful orchestration of color contrasts and textural layers, the painting evokes emotional depth and visual intrigue, while maintaining an abstract language that resists literal interpretation. It stands as a compelling example of contemporary abstract painting, where formal elements coalesce into a harmonious yet vibrant whole. Executed in acrylic on canvas, the work reflects Achuthan Kudallur’s sophisticated approach to abstraction, emphasizing the transformative power of color and gesture in creating immersive visual experiences.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
