Artist: Achuthan Kudallur
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 9 × 10 inches (22.86 × 25.4 cm)

Achuthan Kudallur’s abstract acrylic painting presents a dynamic interplay of rich, earthy hues and bold geometric forms that command the viewer’s attention. Centered prominently within the composition is a large, dark chocolate-brown shape reminiscent of a disc or shield, anchoring the work with its commanding presence. This central form is punctuated by smaller, lighter squares and rectangles embedded within it, creating a complex layering of shapes that suggests depth and spatial interaction.

Surrounding the central motif, textured patterns emerge through a variety of small, distinct shapes and overlapping forms. These details introduce a rhythmic complexity, contrasting colors and intricate markings that invite close inspection. The artist’s skillful use of texture enhances the tactile quality of the surface, providing a sense of movement and vitality that animates the otherwise structured geometric composition.

Accents of gold and yellowish hues trace the edges of certain forms, lending warmth and luminosity to the palette. These subtle highlights create a visual balance against the dominant reds, browns, and ochres, infusing the work with an understated vibrancy. Thin, vertical lines in cool tones of blue and turquoise slice through the canvas, offering a refreshing counterpoint to the warmer colors and adding an element of tension and dynamism. Additional scattered spots of green further enrich the color spectrum, enhancing the painting’s complexity and depth. The edges of the canvas are framed in a dark brown or black, which frames the composition tightly and focuses the viewer’s gaze inward.

Kudallur’s composition eschews representational imagery in favor of an abstract language rooted in geometric exploration and rich chromatic expression. The balance between structured forms and energetic brushwork reflects a nuanced understanding of form, color, and spatial relationships. This work exemplifies the artist’s ability to convey movement and emotion through the careful orchestration of shape and hue. Encased within its dark framing, the painting exudes both intensity and harmony, inviting contemplation of the interplay between solidity and fluidity, warmth and coolness, order and spontaneity, hallmarks of Kudallur’s refined abstract vision.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
