This evocative landscape by Madhav Satwalekar offers a serene glimpse into rural life, likely set in India, capturing the quiet rhythms of a village scene. The composition centers on a thatched-roof hut, its pale brownish-gray tones harmonizing with the earthy palette that dominates the work. The structure’s humble, rustic form grounds the scene, evoking a sense of tradition and simplicity.

Around the hut, several figures engage in everyday activities, lending a narrative depth to the painting. A woman gently cradles a child, suggesting themes of care and continuity, while another woman attends to a small cylindrical container nearby, hinting at domestic chores or preparations. A man stands by a rudimentary fence, his posture conveying vigilance or a moment of pause in the day’s labor. These human elements imbue the painting with warmth and vitality, connecting viewers to the lived experience of rural community life. The ground beneath them is rendered in soft, light brownish-tan hues, scattered with pieces of wood and debris, underscoring the natural, unrefined environment. Small earthenware containers dot the scene, reinforcing the traditional, handcrafted lifestyle intrinsic to the setting. In the distance, a small herd of dark-colored animals grazes, adding a dynamic sense of space and life to the otherwise tranquil composition.

The landscape unfolds beneath a light, overcast sky, its subtle gray tones softening the overall atmosphere and suggesting a gentle, diffused light that bathes the village in calm. The muted, earthy color palette, dominated by browns, tans, and soft grays, evokes warmth and the grounded realities of rural existence in a warm climate. Madhav Satwalekar’s sensitive portrayal balances detail and atmosphere, inviting viewers into a contemplative moment that honors the quiet dignity and enduring rhythms of village life. The painting’s nuanced composition and restrained palette create a timeless snapshot of a community deeply connected to its land and traditions.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
