Artist: Eugene Kingman
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Size: 30 × 60 inches ( 76.2 × 152.4 cm)
This evocative oil painting by Kingman captures a moment of profound stillness and natural beauty in a secluded woodland setting. With a delicate palette and finely tuned sense of composition, the artist transports the viewer to a quiet, meditative space where time seems to pause and the landscape breathes gently. The painting lies a small, rustic cabin nestled at the edge of a calm lake. The structure, modest in form and rendered with soft, earthy tones, feels harmoniously integrated into its surroundings. It suggests a life lived close to nature, one of solitude and simplicity. A narrow, light brown path curves gently through the foreground, guiding the viewer’s eye toward the cabin and hinting at a human presence, perhaps recent, perhaps long gone. Surrounding the cabin is a dense forest composed of trees in various shades of green, brown, and gold. These hues are not bright or saturated; rather, they are muted and slightly blended, suggesting either the soft light of early morning or the veil of mist that sometimes lingers in untouched landscapes. The foliage feels layered and atmospheric, creating an immersive depth that draws the viewer into the scene. The transitions between color and form are smooth, almost dreamlike, enhancing the sense of quiet.
The lake itself is painted in subdued shades of green and grey, with just a hint of reflected light from the trees and sky above. The surface is placid, neither glassy nor turbulent, conveying a mood of stillness that complements the hush of the forest. It acts as both a mirror and a boundary, subtly dividing the composition and amplifying the sense of spatial harmony. The artist’s brushwork is soft and restrained, allowing color and tone to lead the emotional impact of the painting. There is little visual noise; everything in the composition seems intentional, from the choice of colors to the quiet placement of the cabin. The result is a landscape that evokes not just a place, but a feeling, of retreat, introspection, and gentle solitude. Kingman’s painting is more than a depiction of nature; it is a mood piece, inviting the viewer to momentarily escape the noise of the world and enter a serene, introspective space shaped by light, land, and memory.

Why Choose Us
Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.
All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.
Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
