Transporting viewers into a serene and evocative world, Monalisa Sarkar’s acrylic on canvas masterfully intertwines the realms of interior and exterior, crafting a scene suffused with nostalgia and contemplative quietude. The composition delicately balances deep, enveloping blues with warm, golden hues, creating an emotional palette that oscillates between melancholy and reverie. Sarkar’s meticulous brushwork imbues the surface with texture and intimacy, inviting a closer look at the subtle gestures and details that enrich this poetic tableau.

Central to the work is the gently parted curtain, which frames a tranquil seascape beyond the room, acting as a liminal threshold between the familiar domestic space and the vastness of nature. This visual passage invites reflection on the relationship between memory and the present moment, as the quiet interior resonates with the expansive calm of the sea. The scattered everyday objects, carefully placed yet seemingly incidental, add layers of narrative complexity, suggesting personal histories and silent stories embedded within the scene. Sarkar’s nuanced color harmony plays a critical role in evoking mood. The deep blues envelop the composition like twilight shadows, evoking a sense of introspection and emotional depth, while the golden tones shimmer softly, offering warmth and a subtle glow that counters the coolness of the blues. This interplay creates a visual tension that mirrors the emotional dualities of longing and peace, presence and absence, stillness and subtle movement.

The painting’s intimate scale and detailed execution invite viewers into a contemplative space, where time feels suspended and ordinary moments are elevated to realms of quiet significance. The textured brushwork enhances this sense of tactility, making the painted surface itself a site of sensory engagement. Through this, Sarkar achieves a balance between representational clarity and poetic abstraction, allowing the work to resonate on both personal and universal levels. Monalisa Sarkar’s Untitled is a testament to her ability to weave emotional narratives through her art, using color, composition, and texture to explore themes of memory, longing, and serene reflection. The piece invites a meditative encounter, encouraging viewers to pause and immerse themselves in the subtle beauty of everyday life and the poignant spaces between presence and memory.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
