This striking artwork by Ravi Krishnan presents a captivating exploration of the human form through abstraction and line. The rectangular composition features a series of stylized faces arranged horizontally, creating a rhythmic sequence that draws the viewer’s eye across the canvas. Each face is crafted from a web of thin, metallic lines that weave together to form expressive contours, eyes, noses, mouths, rendered with an intentional exaggeration and fragmentation that suggest both individuality and universality.

The metallic lines, reminiscent of wire or fine threads of metal, serve as the defining element of the piece. Their intricate interweaving evokes both delicacy and strength, suggesting how fragile yet resilient human identity can be. These lines create contours that are at once bold and subtle, allowing the viewer to explore each face’s unique expression while recognizing the shared structure that links them together. The abstraction invites interpretation rather than presenting literal portraits, encouraging the viewer to reflect on the complexity of human emotions, relationships, and self-perception.

The background enhances the overall impact of the composition. Rendered in a muted, dark brownish-gray, it provides a subtle but powerful contrast to the metallic lines, allowing them to stand out with striking clarity. The textured or impasto quality of the background adds depth, lending the impression that the faces emerge from or dissolve into the surface. This subtle layering contributes to the sense of space and dimensionality, making the forms appear simultaneously grounded and ephemeral. Krishnan’s work demonstrates a thoughtful blend of abstraction and graphic representation, merging expressionist impulses with a modern sensibility. The choice of medium, oil on canvas, further reinforces the painterly textures and richness of the piece, while the metallic line-work introduces an almost sculptural quality. The faces, though stylized, resonate with a psychological depth, suggesting emotions that are fragmented, layered, and open to interpretation.

The artwork exemplifies Krishnan’s interest in exploring human identity beyond conventional representation. By deconstructing familiar forms and reconstructing them with fluid, metallic lines, he invites viewers into a space where form and feeling coexist in harmony. The piece challenges perceptions of portraiture, offering instead an abstract meditation on presence, connection, and the intricate textures of human experience. This composition stands as a testament to Ravi Krishnan’s ability to balance structure and fluidity, texture and line, resulting in a visually compelling and conceptually rich artwork that resonates with contemporary explorations of the human condition.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
