This evocative landscape captures the quiet drama of an open countryside through a richly textured and expressive painterly language. A winding earthen road dominates the composition, beginning in the foreground and receding towards the distant horizon, creating a strong sense of depth and movement. Rendered in subdued shades of grey, ochre, rust, brown and deep green, the road becomes the central visual and emotional axis of the work.
On either side, the landscape is suggested through loosely defined fields, vegetation and dark clusters of trees or bushes. Utility poles and slender wires stretch across the scene, introducing a subtle human presence within an otherwise expansive natural setting. The warm, muted sky occupies the upper portion of the composition and lends the painting an atmospheric, almost contemplative quality.
Bhattacharya's handling of oil paint is particularly notable for its tactile surface and energetic brushwork. Rather than describing the landscape with precise detail, he builds it through layered marks, scratches and variations in tone, allowing forms to emerge organically. The interplay between light and shadow gives the scene a sense of changing weather and passing time. Untitled transforms an ordinary rural view into a poetic meditation on distance, solitude and the enduring relationship between landscape and memory.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.
Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
