Radiating a refined elegance, A A Almelkar’s watercolor and gouache on paperboard exemplifies a harmonious synthesis of tradition and sophisticated artistry. Through a subtle yet deliberate interplay of form and ornamentation, the artwork invites viewers into an intimate narrative that transcends the spoken word, revealing a profound exchange imbued with grace and contemplation.

Almelkar’s masterful use of watercolor and gouache manifests in a richly textured surface, where nuanced washes and precise brushwork converge to create layered visual interest. The artist’s command of geometric motifs punctuates the composition, weaving a rhythmic pattern that enhances both structure and aesthetic allure. These motifs, rendered with meticulous attention to detail, evoke a timeless quality, suggesting the enduring presence of cultural symbols within a contemporary artistic framework.

The palette, restrained yet evocative, balances textured hues that enhance the artwork’s overall sense of harmony and sophistication. Soft, muted tones interplay with richer, more saturated areas, producing a visual dialogue that underscores the emotional subtlety and refined sensibility of the scene. The careful modulation of color accentuates the figures’ garments and adornments, while also contributing to a cohesive atmosphere that is at once serene and vibrant.       The interaction between the figures, while understated, speaks volumes through gesture and posture, capturing a moment suspended in time that hints at deeper narratives and shared histories. Almelkar’s subtle treatment of expression and body language encourages an empathetic response, drawing the viewer into a contemplative space where tradition meets introspection.

This artwork stands as a testament to A A Almelkar’s distinguished aesthetic, marked by an elegant fusion of classical influences and modern interpretation. The piece not only honors cultural heritage through its iconography and stylistic choices but also elevates it through sophisticated execution and artistic innovation. In essence, the painting offers a cultured, timeless allure that resonates with both connoisseurs of traditional art and admirers of contemporary refinement. It invites sustained engagement, rewarding close observation with its intricate details and emotive subtlety, embodying the enduring dialogue between past and present.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
