A study in tonal restraint and metaphysical presence, Vinod Sharma’s evocative composition draws the viewer into a space of profound introspection. Rendered in a chiaroscuro palette dominated by sepia tones, the canvas exudes a haunting stillness, where architecture and abstraction coalesce to form a contemplative environment. The artist constructs a visual corridor between two towering monolithic forms, which rise solemnly on either side of the frame, framing a central void suffused with a gentle, ethereal luminescence.

This interplay of darkness and light, an elemental dance of solidity and emptiness, imbues the painting with a sense of spatial ambiguity. Sharma's use of chiaroscuro here is not simply a technical gesture, but a philosophical one: light becomes a metaphor for transcendence, and shadow a vessel for inward reflection. The glowing center, veiled in a gossamer-like radiance, appears less a source of light than a presence, ungraspable yet beckoning. It suggests a passage not only through physical space but toward a spiritual elsewhere, evoking themes of impermanence, revelation, and the sublime.

The subdued color palette, centered around warm umbers, earthy browns, and faded golds, enhances the sense of austerity and calm. Sharma’s mastery lies in the subtle gradation of tone and the finely textured surface, which together create a visual rhythm that is both meditative and architectural. The surfaces of the monolithic forms are richly worked, offering depth and tactility, while their stark verticality lends the composition a quiet monumentality. Despite their imposing scale, they do not dominate the space; rather, they serve as sentinels guarding an unseen threshold.

A liminal space, part sacred chamber, part abstract expanse, where time seems suspended and the viewer is invited into a moment of still awareness. Sharma’s ability to balance formal rigor with emotional resonance results in a work that is as much an interior journey as a visual experience. The painting does not seek to describe, but to evoke; it becomes a portal through which one encounters silence, solitude, and the quiet dignity of the immaterial. In this masterfully restrained composition, Sharma transcends the conventions of landscape and structure to articulate a visual language of serenity and transcendence. It is a work that demands not interpretation, but presence, a silent engagement with the subtle power of form, space, and luminous stillness.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
