This square oil on canvas painting, elegantly framed in light gray metal, offers a compelling exploration of abstraction through a rich interplay of cool-toned hues and textured surfaces. The composition is anchored in a palette dominated by varied shades of blue and teal, punctuated by subtle hints of gold and yellow that introduce warmth and luminosity. These accents provide moments of visual contrast, elevating the chromatic harmony and adding depth to the overall effect.

The work’s style aligns with the traditions of abstract expressionism and collage, characterized by a dynamic layering of overlapping, irregular shapes and lines. This intricate arrangement generates a sense of movement and complexity, encouraging the viewer’s eye to navigate through the densely woven visual field. The visible brushstrokes serve as a testament to the artist’s gestural approach, imparting texture and physicality that enliven the surface and emphasize the tactile qualities of oil paint.

The predominance of cool tones, ranging from deep sapphire to softer aquamarine, evokes a contemplative, almost meditative atmosphere, while the sporadic use of white accents adds spatial clarity and highlights key compositional areas. These elements work in concert to create a nuanced dialogue between depth and flatness, fluidity and structure, inviting viewers to experience the painting as both a physical object and an immersive visual environment.

The painting’s complexity lies not only in its chromatic and formal elements but also in its ability to balance spontaneity with deliberate composition. The layered shapes and lines suggest a process of continual evolution and reconfiguration, reflecting the artist’s engagement with abstraction as a means of expressing both emotional intensity and intellectual rigor. Situated within contemporary conversations on abstract expressionism, this work demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of color theory, compositional balance, and the materiality of paint. It challenges viewers to move beyond representational confines and engage with the pure language of form and hue. The painting stands as a vibrant testament to the enduring power of abstraction to evoke dynamism, complexity, and emotional resonance through the interplay of color, texture, and gestural mark-making.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
