This evocative landscape painting, likely executed in oil on canvas, captures a serene moment along a quiet waterway, inviting viewers into a contemplative, almost nostalgic atmosphere. The composition is carefully structured, guiding the eye from the reflective waters in the foreground to the clustered townscape on the slope, and finally to the dusky sky that envelopes the scene.

In the foreground, the calm body of water acts as both a physical and metaphorical mirror. The reflections of the opposite shore’s structures ripple gently across the surface, rendered with subtle textures that suggest movement and light. Small boats, painted in dark hues, are moored along the water’s edge, their modest forms hinting at daily life and the rhythms of a community dependent on the water. Rudimentary docks or shelters stand quietly, their simple architecture grounding the scene in humble, lived reality.

The mid-ground reveals a tightly knit townscape, where buildings in shades of beige, tan, and brown cluster together along the hillside. This tightly packed arrangement conveys a sense of community and history, as if generations have built upon this terrain. Among the structures, taller buildings with pointed rooftops rise, likely religious or civic landmarks, adding verticality and a sense of purpose to the town’s silhouette. The use of warm earth tones contrasts with the cooler palette of the water and sky, balancing the composition and emphasizing the built environment’s connection to the earth. In the background, the sky emerges in muted teal-blue shades, suggesting the transition from day to night, a dusky twilight that imbues the painting with a gentle melancholy. The artist’s application of texture here is notable; the shimmering quality in both sky and water creates a unifying atmospheric effect, reinforcing the scene’s calm and contemplative mood.

Through a thoughtful blend of color, light, and texture, the artist creates a multi-layered experience of place, one that evokes memory, stillness, and quiet reflection. The painting transcends mere representation to become a poetic meditation on the passage of time, the beauty of everyday life, and the enduring bond between nature and human settlement. This work’s subdued palette and nuanced execution invite viewers to pause and immerse themselves in its tranquil world, making it a moving and timeless celebration of landscape and community.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
