A captivating painting that beautifully blends traditional Indian aesthetics with refined artistic technique. The central figure, a woman viewed from behind, is rendered with exquisite attention to detail, evoking both mystery and grace. Her flowing white dress, adorned with intricate patterns and delicate jewelry, serves as a canvas for the artist’s skillful exploration of texture and design. The woman’s dark hair is elaborately styled, embellished with floral accents and ornamental accessories that hint at cultural richness and ceremonial significance. These details invite the viewer to imagine the story and heritage behind the figure, making her presence both personal and universal.

Dominating the composition is a large, vibrant red umbrella held gracefully above the woman’s head. This umbrella is not only a visual focal point but also a cultural symbol, and celebration in many Indian traditions. Its striking hue contrasts harmoniously with the soft gold and beige tones of the background, which provide a warm, luminous setting that accentuates the figure’s refined elegance.

To the right of the scene, a green parrot perches calmly on a wall, adding a lively splash of color and symbolic depth. In Indian art, parrots often represent love, companionship, and auspiciousness, further enriching the narrative suggested by the painting. The wall itself bears subtle illustrations of additional umbrellas and ornamental motifs, drawn delicately to complement without overwhelming the composition’s primary elements.

The artist’s approach is reminiscent of classical Indian painting techniques, characterized by fine line work, ornamental detailing, and a harmonious color palette. The overall effect is one of serene beauty and cultural resonance, capturing a moment suspended in time. Engage with themes of tradition, femininity, and the intimate rituals that punctuate everyday life. It is a testament to the enduring power of cultural storytelling through visual art, rendered with both skill and heartfelt sensitivity.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
