A vibrant and visually captivating painting that celebrates feminine beauty, tradition, and cultural continuity through a richly layered composition. Rendered in exquisite detail, the artwork features five women, all shown from the back, standing in quiet unison. Their long, dark braids, each adorned with ornate jewelry, become central visual elements, emblems of identity, continuity, and shared heritage.

The figures are dressed in traditional attire, composed of colorfully patterned blouses and skirts in a vivid palette of reds, oranges, blues, purples, and greens. The clothing, meticulously detailed, reflects textile traditions, with decorative motifs that contribute both rhythm and depth to the composition. Though their faces remain unseen, the posture and styling of the women convey a strong sense of individuality and collective grace.

Adding to the sense of harmony between nature and culture are the parrots, vivid green and rendered with lifelike precision, perched on the women's heads and shoulders. These birds, traditionally symbolic of love, companionship, and beauty in Indian folklore, infuse the work with vibrancy and a touch of whimsy, while also suggesting a deep connection between the human and natural worlds. The backdrop, in contrast to the saturated tones of the figures and birds, is a sophisticated, light grayish-white tapestry of stylized motifs. Delicate line work reveals subtle, almost hidden figures and patterns, lending the painting a meditative complexity. The background becomes a visual echo of cultural memory, drawing viewers deeper into the intricate narrative layers that inform the piece.

Executed in a decorative, highly detailed style, fuses traditional aesthetics with contemporary composition. The artist’s deft handling of texture, color, and symmetry creates a balanced, harmonious visual experience. Every element, from the positioning of the figures to the careful integration of flora and fauna, has been thoughtfully rendered to evoke both beauty and meaning.

More than a visual feast, a cultural homage an ode to shared histories, communal identity, and the enduring elegance of everyday traditions. It invites viewers to consider the power of memory and adornment, and the unseen stories carried within familiar forms. This remarkable work exemplifies the artist’s mastery of pattern, symbolism, and storytelling, offering a vibrant and timeless vision of cultural celebration.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
