A vibrant and contemplative painting that celebrates companionship, femininity, and the quiet poetry of everyday life. Executed in ink and watercolor, the composition is centered around two elegantly dressed women viewed from behind, standing side by side beneath a large, radiant yellow umbrella delicately patterned with white dots. This umbrella, bright and expansive, draws the viewer’s eye and serves as both a visual focal point and a symbolic motif, suggesting intimacy, protection, and shared experience.

The two women, their figures rendered with grace and precision, wear elaborately patterned garments in muted tones of gray and brown. These are delicately accented with gold and mustard-yellow details, adding warmth and richness to their attire. Their hairstyles, intricately styled into traditional updos, convey a sense of cultural identity and ceremonial refinement. Though their faces are unseen, their posture and closeness evoke a narrative of quiet companionship, perhaps hinting at stories of sisterhood, friendship, or shared journeys. Behind them, a stylized cityscape unfolds in soft, monochrome washes. Buildings, birds, butterflies, and architectural motifs emerge subtly in the background, layered with finesse and restraint. The muted backdrop provides a striking contrast to the vibrancy of the umbrella and the women’s embellished attire, creating a visual dialogue between the personal and the public, the colorful and the subdued.

Work speaks to the elegance of everyday moments and the quiet strength of connection. With its fusion of traditional Indian visual idioms and contemporary sensitivity, the artwork bridges cultural memory with modern narrative. The composition is both intimate and expansive, drawing viewers into a world where color, texture, and storytelling meet in harmonious balance. This piece is a testament to the artist’s command of detail, composition, and emotional nuance, an evocative work that lingers in the imagination long after viewing.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
