This sculptural painting, Untitled (Ganesha), created in 2021 by K. Laxma Goud, demonstrates the artist’s distinctive approach of combining painting with sculptural form. Executed in acrylic on a naturally shaped wooden slab, the artwork integrates the organic texture and irregular contours of the wood into the composition. Rather than treating the surface as a flat canvas, the artist embraces the natural grain and curvature of the wood, allowing it to guide the overall structure of the work.

At the center of the composition appears the vibrant figure of Ganesha, the widely revered Hindu deity associated with wisdom, prosperity, and the removal of obstacles. The deity is depicted in a seated posture, richly adorned with intricate ornaments, patterned garments, and a decorative headdress. The figure’s bright red body contrasts strongly with the warm brown tones of the wood, making it visually striking and emphasizing its sacred presence. Ganesha holds symbolic objects in his hands, while his trunk gently curves toward a sweet, a traditional reference to the deity’s fondness for offerings such as modaks.

Above the central figure, stylized trees and decorative motifs are carefully painted, adding a narrative and environmental dimension to the piece. These elements suggest a natural or spiritual landscape, enhancing the sense of harmony between the divine figure and the organic wooden surface. At the lower section, small ornamental details and miniature imagery enrich the composition, creating layers of visual storytelling.

Through the fusion of folk-inspired imagery, vibrant colors, and the tactile quality of wood, K. Laxma Goud creates a work that bridges traditional symbolism with contemporary artistic expression.

Why Choose Us

Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.

All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.

Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
