Immersing viewers in a sumptuous domestic tableau, M Shakeel’s oil painting offers a masterful depiction of an opulent interior space where warmth and refinement converge. The composition focuses on a corner living room, rendered with a rich palette dominated by golden-orange hues that suffuse the walls and furnishings with a radiant glow. This chromatic choice not only creates an inviting atmosphere but also serves to unify the various elements within the space, imbuing the scene with a harmonious vibrancy.
Central to the composition is an exquisite crystal chandelier suspended from a lofty ceiling, its intricate facets capturing and refracting light to enhance the room’s sense of grandeur. The chandelier acts as both a functional and symbolic centerpiece, evoking themes of luxury and timeless elegance. Surrounding it, the walls are adorned with vintage-style framed portraits and carefully curated decorative objects, which contribute historical resonance and a sense of cultivated taste to the environment.
The spatial arrangement further underscores the room’s sumptuous character. A low, dark-toned coffee table with ornately carved legs anchors the foreground, resting upon a patterned rug that adds texture and complexity to the floor plane. The table itself holds an assortment of decorative items, glassware and verdant plants, that enliven the composition and introduce subtle contrasts in form and material. These details underscore the artist’s meticulous attention to the interplay between utility and ornamentation in domestic settings.
Richly upholstered armchairs and a sofa are arrayed with patterned cushions and throws, their sumptuous fabrics and intricate designs reinforcing the theme of comfort intertwined with sophistication. The furniture’s careful placement invites viewers into a contemplative engagement with the space, evoking both intimacy and grandeur. Shakeel’s adept handling of oil paint is evident in the nuanced rendering of textures, from the gleam of crystal to the softness of upholstery, achieving a tactile realism that enriches the visual experience. The interplay of light and shadow throughout the composition adds depth and dimensionality, enhancing the room’s immersive quality.
This painting stands as a testament to M Shakeel’s skillful negotiation of space, color, and detail. It not only celebrates the aesthetic pleasures of interior design but also invites reflection on the cultural and historical narratives embedded within domestic environments. The work embodies a refined synthesis of opulence and warmth, making it a significant contribution to contemporary explorations of lived space and material culture.

Why Choose Us
Art has always, naturally, reflected the development and exploration of different thoughts and perceptions, and our current postmodern era is no different. It is interesting to see how art has evolved visually, yet the traditional methods of composing art remain a valid means of expression.
All it takes for an artist to rise above normalcy, is inspiration, which fuels his passion to paint beautiful creations throughout his life.
The valuable expression of art is always there with us, but now this expression is yet to take an interesting diversion with our art gallery, Gallery Silver Scapes, located in Hauz Khas Enclave. Art is no longer considered just decorative but has evolved and come forth as a major form of investment yielding high rates of returns for its buyers, making it an expression commonly used.

Mrs Mayor was walked into the art world by the legendary modernist Bimal Das Gupta, one of whose biggest collections remains with Gallery Silver Scapes. In the 1980s, as head and first curator of the Habiart Gallery founded by Mrs Rekha Modi — a childhood friend — Mrs Mayor worked closely with and curated shows for renowned artists such as A Ramachandran, GR Santosh, Rameshwar Broota, Sakti Burman, MK Bardhan, Dhiraj Chaudhury, M Sivanesan, and Arup Das among others.
Besides modern masters, she also worked with young contemporaries such as Sudip Roy, Paresh Maity, Subroto Kundu, Vinod Sharma, and many more. Artworks commissioned by her are now part of prestigious collections, such as those of the India Habitat Centre, Ranbaxy, Pepsi, Hotel Lalit, Bank of America, and many more private and public collections.
